The Falun copper mine is an impressive testimony to the history of mining. For centuries and until a few decades ago, it was mainly copper that was mined here. The Finnskogsmuseet in the neighbouring village of Skräddrabo, just 10 minutes from Skålsjögården, provides detailed information about the history of the Finn Forest and Skålsjögården. The owner and initiator, Mats, is a son of the founder of Skålsjögården.
The visit is also exciting for children, as there is a bear cave to discover!

Östra Silvberg gruva
The Silver Ring is a cultural tour of southern Dalarna that takes you through the Silvberg and Säter mining areas, linking interesting mining environments. Explore the history of iron and silver from the mine to the smelter and forge.
Along the way you can enjoy beautiful resting places at several lakes, so bring a picnic basket. Information boards at the destinations give you insight into the history of the place, and all information is available in both English and German.
Highlights along the route include:
- Östra Silvberg: Here you will find one of Sweden's oldest mines and Ödekyrkogården, where the medieval St Nikolai Chapel once stood.
- Jönshyttan: This site was where the silver ore from the Östra Silvberg mines was smelted.
- Grängshammar: One of Dalarna's most picturesque mill environments, known for Olof Forsgren's stylish buildings. Also nearby is Silvberg's octagonal church.
- Ulfshyttan: A smelter was built here in the 17th century, and production of pig iron continued continuously until May 1939.
- Bispberg mine: This mine dates back to the Middle Ages and is characterised by the magnificent Vasa river from 1889, making it one of Sweden's best preserved iron mining environments.
